Restoring Critical Fish Habitats in Eastern Ontario Watersheds
Granted $8,000.00 for the restoring of critical fish habitats in Eastern Ontario Watersheds
Project Objectives:
Watersheds Canada’s Fish Habitat Program works to counter the impacts of growing development along Canada’s lakes and rivers, and the resulting degradation and loss of critical fish habitat. Watersheds Canada, in partnership with local organizations, works to protect, enhance, and restore these freshwater habitats. In a few short years, the program has completed 22 habitat enhancement projects, made possible through our 50 community partners and 8 funders. Some of our projects include walleye and trout spawning bed restorations, Coldwater creek habitat enhancements, and adding woody debris back into lakes with brush bundle projects. More can be discovered about our program here: www.watersheds.ca/our-work/habitat-programs/.
The impact of this scheduled work over 2023 and 2024 will be profound, with an estimated 3855 hectares of habitat expected to be restored on 8 different sites, and 15-20 partners and 150-200 volunteers engaged.
