Virtual Presentations on Compassion for Wildlife
Project Objectives:
Love Wildlife’ is our free education program at Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre, that raises awareness of human impacts on wild animals in Ontario and offers practical ways of reducing harm to wildlife. Our capstone educational project is the delivery of free virtual presentations that focus on teaching empathy and compassion for wildlife.
After successfully piloting the virtual presentations in spring 2020, we refined and re-launched the virtual presentations for the 2020/2021 school year, designing three 1-hour presentations for teachers to choose from. These presentations are:
- Caring for Wildlife (Kindergarten to Grade 8): Students learn about the animals in our care and how to show kindness to wildlife in our community. This program is seasonally adapted.
- At-Home with Wildlife (Grade 4-8): Students investigate the habitats around their home and find out who lives in their neighbourhood?
- Working with Wildlife (Grade 9-12): Students experience a day-in-the-life of our dedicated staff as they go on a virtual tour of our facility.
